ProtoHIT is passionate about changing healthcare for the better, for all concerned, with our initial focus being workers’ compensation patients. We want to help providers dramatically improve patient outcomes and cut costs.

That which gets measured improves. We help occupational health providers measure their patient outcomes to enable improved treatments. The system is all about continuous improvement.

The original ProtoHIT application was created by Dr. Phillip Wagner in his occupational health practice, treating over 12,000 workers’ compensation patients. The treatment protocols he developed cover 80 to 85% of work-related injuries. In addition to achieving better quality and outcomes with ProtoHIT, medical costs decreased by 15% in the treatment of patients. ProtoHIT has commercialized his work so that it can be used by any workers’ comp clinic. And we are working with ACOEM to insure that the protocols stay current with the best practices of evidence-based medicine.

As our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Barry Chaiken, notes, “These early intervention protocols function as a surveillance tool to focus the professional on what needs deeper evaluation. It’s not to pass judgment. It’s to guide and focus treatment. There will always be variation, and our job is to examine the variation and be sure it is at a level we deem acceptable. Without variation there is no progress or new discoveries. With too much variation there is poor quality and poor outcomes.”

ProtoHIT is Software as a Service (SaaS),  or as it’s sometimes called, “software on demand.”   Our customers don’t have to purchase any new equipment or invest in costly user training—all they need is a browser. And, it’s “pay-as-go.” Don’t use it? Don’t pay for it.

It was also designed so it could be used on smaller screens, such as the Apple iPad, for mobile medicine.

Our goal is to build a large, nationwide database on treatment metrics. Occupational health clinics will be able compare their treatment plans with peer clinics to learn what are the most optimal and cost effective treatment strategies for common workers’ comp injuries.
